
English Discovery Night : “Genre Escape”
On Friday night, The English Department presented “Genre Escape”. Students learned about different genres such as fairy-tales, science fiction, historical, biography, non-fiction, horror, action and comedy. Each house was asked to perform Romeo and Juliet in one of the genres. Lerna House won the Performance and Sparrow won the Escape Room contest.
The Gilder Lehrman Institute
Ivy Collegiate Academy has been designated a Gilder Lehrman Institute Affiliate School. The Gilder Lehrman Institute sponsors teacher training and classroom resources in the field of American History.
Published Article by Ian Lin ‘19
Ian Lin, Class of 2019, has had an article published on Malala Yousafzai. The article is entitled “The Young Lady Fighter Who Changed the World”. Under the direction of Ms. Aileen Chen, Chinese Teacher, Ian’s article talks about her fighting the Taliban in Pakistan for women’s education. Malala won the Noble Peace Prize for her efforts.
Ms. Tu Chosen for Japan Visit
Ms. Caroline Tu, Japanese teacher and World Language Department Chairperson, was invited by the Japan Kumamoto Government to be a monitor for Marathon running in Kumamoto. Ms. Tu was one of twenty Taiwanese guests to be chosen for the tour.
ICA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Travel to Xiamen
The ICA men’s and women’s basketball team traveled on February 10-12, 2017 to participate in the Xiamen International Basketball Tournament. ICA’s Men’s team struggled on the first day, but came on strong on the second day to finish third. ICA’s young women’s team finished fourth.
Middle Boys and Girls Volleyball Teams Travel to Hong Kong
The middle school boys and girls volleyball teams participated in the SCISAC Volleyball Tournament at Hong Kong Academy. The boys team placed fifth and the girls team placed sixth.
Men’s Track Team
This week the Men’s Track travel to meets at Taipei American and Morrison Academy Taichung. At the Morrison meet on February 21, Ichiro Okabe took a first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2.14 minutes. Also, he placed second in the mile run. The ICA men’s 4X200 relay team placed second.
Academy Singers and Strings
The Academy Singers and Strings joined twenty other international schools at Dulwich College in Beijing to participate in the International School Choral Music Society Concert. Students spent a week working with five international conductors, composers and musicians. After the practices, the combined schools give a major performance.
