NASA International Space Apps Challenge

The NASA International Space Apps Challenge (Space Apps) is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage NASA’s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.

On Oct 1st and 2nd, over the course of two days, Space Apps brings participants from around the world, including the nine engineering students at ICA, together at hundreds of in-person and virtual local events to solve challenges submitted by NASA experts. Challenges such as “How does climate change affect you,” let students in ICA research and think about how we can solve the problems that can make our planet a safe place to live. During the event, ICA engineering students were encouraged to collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically, which enhanced their 21st-centry skills. The idea is to leverage this interest to encourage the growth and diversity of the next generation of scientists, technologists, designers, storytellers, and engineers in ICA. The common thread among ICA Engineering students is an interest in exploring our planet and universe using science, mathematics, creativity, and a desire to learn.
