Swim Team at TISSA Meet and Hero Games

On September 25/26, the ICA Swim team had their TISSA tournament at Morrison Taichung. Friday morning the swimmers participated in the Hero Games, with Taiwan Sunshine where each member of our team was paired with an elementary or middle school student with special needs. Our students helped their buddies swim, race in an obstacle course, glide on a slip ‘n slide, and have fun with water balloons. Our students are already excited to volunteer at next year’s Hero Games.

Friday afternoon the TISSA tournament began with the longer events such as the 400 medley relay, the 400 freestyle, and the 200 breaststroke. Our 400 medley team of Ray Chen, Hank Chen, Kevin Jeong and Henry Tseng took a silver medal, they also received another silver medal in the 400 freestyle relay the following day. Henry Tseng won a bronze medal for the 400 freestyle. Hank Chen, Eric Chui, and Kevin Chen swam in the 200 breaststroke, however no medals were awarded to ICA for this event.

On Saturday we were missing a few swimmers who were taking the SAT, but Shin Yu Taya who came to cheer on the team, asked to compete so he swam the 50 freestyle. Eric Chui, Hank Chen, Kevin Chen, Kevin Jeong, and Henry Tseng also competed in the 50 freestyle, and Henry won the bronze medal. Eric Chui dropped and impressive 20 seconds on his 50 freestyle time. Eric Chiu, Ray Chen, Kevin Chen, and Hank Chen all swam the 100 breaststroke, however no medals were won. Ray Chen swam the 100 individual medley, and the 200 freestyle along with Hank Chen. Kevin Jeong and Henry Tseng both swam the 100 freestyle and Henry won a silver medal. Henry Tseng won a gold medal in the 100 butterfly. Our relay team of Henry Tseng, Ray Chen, Kevin Chen, and Kevin Jeong won bronze in the 200 medley relay. And Henry Tseng, Hank Chen, Kevin Chen, and Kevin Jeong won a bronze medal for the 200 freestyle relay. We are really proud of all of our swimmers, many of whom set new personal records. We would like to give special shout out to Henry Tseng, who medaled in all of his events, winning 4 bronze medals, 3 silver medals, and 1 gold medal. Despite having a very small team, the ICA Boys Varsity Swim Team placed 4th overall in the tournament.
