
Parents Day October 21, 2018
IVY collegiate Academy held its annual fall parents day on Sunday, Oct 2018. Over two hundred and ninety four parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends attended the day’s festivities.
The day started with the Headmaster, John C Cheska, giving an update on the Academy and its activities. Following the general meeting, parents visited with teachers. All students, faculty and parents gatheed in the commons for lunch.
Following lunch Junior and Senior parents attended a session on college and university admissions while underclass parents continued to visit with teachers.
At 2pm everyone gathered in the new auditorium for a variety of student performances. The program included solo performances by :
- Brian Lin ‘20 Piano – River flows by Yiruma
- Ian Lin ‘19 Flute – Sonata in a major or arpeggione by Schubert
- Calvin Choi ‘20 Piano – Valse op 64 No 2 Chopin
- Jay Chou ‘21 Erhu – Always with me by Always with me Hayao Miyazaki
- Kate Jang ‘21 Piano – Etude op.10 No 5 by Chopin
- Kaela Hana Penwarden 21’ Vocal – Never enough by Bin J Paske and Justin Paul
- Terry Chang 20’ Timpani – No 11 Funk by Todd a Ukena
Also the chamber orchestra played the Ragtime Dance by Scott Joplin and Under the Sea by Alana Menken and Howard Ashman.
Following the chamber orchestra, percussion Group B performed Soul Bossa a Nova by Quincy Jones and percussion Group A played. A snow lantern by Yamaznwa Yoko and Sad Song of Two People by Takafumi Ohtake.
The Acapella Choir entertained the audience with Oh Happy Day by Edwin Hawkins and the Academy Singers sang Look at the World by John Rutter and Seasons of Love by Jonathan Larson.
The day’s festivities and program ended with the singing of ICA’s fight song.
